Memorial Health System to Offer Sports Physicals
(May 12, 2016, Marietta, Ohio) – Memorial Health System’s Department of Sports Medicine is partnering with three local high schools to provide sports physicals and ImPACT® baseline concussion testing for student-athletes. The physicals will be for the 2016-17 school year. Physicals for Warren and Waterford High Schools’ students will be held on Thursday, May 19 and physicals for Marietta High School students will be held on Monday, May 23. Both events will be held at Memorial Health System’s Therapy Services office in the Frontier Shopping Center in Marietta. Students need to arrive between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., and the event will conclude at 8:30 p.m.
Tom Bartsokas, M.D., Department of Sports Medicine, says, “We are offering high school athletes who participate in contact and collision sports the opportunity to undergo baseline neuropsychological testing. This aspect of sports concussion care provides medical specialists valuable information about a child’s pre-injury brain function so that post-injury treatment may be more individualized and case-specific.” Dr. Bartsokas continues, “This service is designed to target active youngsters in a way that is convenient, accessible and affordable.”
The cost for a sports physical is $25 per student and the cost for ImPACT® baseline concussion testing is $25 per student. The cost for having both services completed is $50 per student. All proceeds will go to the participating schools’ athletic boosters.
