November 21, 2011 - Marietta Memorial Hospital Announces the Opening of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at The Wound Care Center

Marietta Memorial Hospital announces the opening of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) located at The Wound Care Center. This innovative and comprehensive program specializes in the treatment of chronic and non-healing wounds, a growing problem spurred by the aging of America and the rising rates of diabetes. The Wound Care Center houses two new hyperbaric chambers and seven treatment rooms. The Center, located at 401 Matthew Street, has been treating patients with chronic and non-healing wounds for over 10 years. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is scheduled to open December 12 and is equipped to treat up to 8 patients per day.

Through a partnership with Diversified Clinical Services (DCS), Marietta Memorial Hospital is able to offer a new and comprehensive center offering specialized wound care and hyperbaric medicine. DCS is the world’s largest wound care management company with over 325 hospital partners delivering excellent evidence-based care to patients with chronic wounds.

“Our program is completely devoted to this interdisciplinary approach to healing problem wounds, and to helping our patients reclaim their quality of life,” said Nate Black, director of the wound care center. “While the majority of the patients who are treated at the center do not require HBOT, those who do receive the treatment will experience high healing rates faster."

The Wound Care Center at Marietta Memorial Hospital is an outpatient, hospital-based program that works in conjunction with the patient’s primary care physician. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., the program operates by appointment and accepts both self-referred patients and physician referred patients.

Dr. Matthew Yoak, reconstructive and cosmetic surgeon, serves as the Medical Director for The Wound Care Center. Dr. Yoak will be assisted by a team of experienced wound care physicians, including Dr. Richard Hershey, general surgeon, Dr. David Spears, family practice, Dr. Steven Downer, podiatry, Dr. Shane Parmer, vascular surgeon, Dr. Donald Hebb, podiatry, and Dr. Michael Holtgrewe, family practice. Each physician will coordinate an individualized plan of care for each patient, working in partnership with the referring physician. Tammy Pierce, clinical nurse manager, will lead the center’s nursing team and work with the physicians to ensure each patient receives the best level of care from registration to discharge.
