December 23, 2015 - Frontier High School Leadership Development Class and FFA Donation

Frontier High School Leadership Development Class and FFA ended their coin drive to benefit the Strecker Cancer Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital. The class raised $1,500 through the coin drive (district-wide) - and an additional $200 came in from business donations.

With the funds raised, Leadership Development students and FFA students made 50 tie blankets for new patients at the Strecker Center. In addition, $500 will be donated both to MMH Strecker Foundation and Nationwide Children's Hospital from the Frontier FFA.

"I am really impressed by the generosity shown by our students, teachers and staff," said Sara Bonnette, Agriscience teacher and FFA advisor at Frontier High School. "They have exceeded my expectations with organization of the project, and the district's generosity is overwhelming."

This project was started as a class project for the Leadership Development class. They started their project on 11/12, after learning about the leadership theory of Service Learning. Their initial goals were to raise $200 through a district-wide coin drive - each class competing for top honors and an ice cream party.

"We were really surprised when we got so much money on the first day," said Frontier FFA President Brittany Martin. "We thought people would participate, but not to this level. This is way more than we expected."

The District has had multiple fundraisers for local people's affected by cancer, including the most recent diagnosis of a Frontier High School Junior.

"The blankets that the kids are making all have a special meaning to them - they all know someone effected by cancer in their lives," said Bonnette. "One blanket will be donated, especially for our fellow students battling this terrible disease."
