Kroger Opens Pharmacy
In Marietta Memorial Hospital
Memorial Health System today announced the opening of a Kroger pharmacy at the Marietta Memorial Campus.
The pharmacy is on the first-floor walkway of Marietta Memorial Hospital and is open to the public and hospital employees from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. weekdays.
“Kroger is delighted to partner with a highly-respected health system to provide a much-needed service within the hospital and the entire community,” said Mike King, district pharmacy coordinator.
“We are excited about our partnership with Kroger and the benefit it will provide our patients and their families,” said Scott Cantley, President/CEO of Memorial Health System.
The 2,500 employees of Marietta Memorial Health System are on the Kroger prescription plan. “This will be a great benefit to our employees,” Cantley said. “We’re pleased that Kroger chose to partner with us for this important venture.”
“We’ve been working with the Hospital for the past 18 months on this new approach,” added King. “Having a Kroger pharmacy within a hospital will result in more convenient services for employees, patients, visitors and the community.” Patients can go directly to the pharmacy to fill their prescriptions after discharge or after being treated by a physician, he added.
The Kroger pharmacy fills prescriptions, offers counseling, and reviews records to ensure patients have the right medication. The pharmacy also has over-the-counter medications available for pain relief, digestive aides and allergy treatments.
Erica Shelton is the pharmacy manager. A native of Cairo, she is a graduate of West Virginia University, where she also earned her doctorate degree in pharmacy. Shelton has been a Kroger pharmacist for 12 years, working in Belpre, Parkersburg and Ripley.
“We’re delighted that Erica is leading our team in Marietta,” said King. “She is an outstanding pharmacist, having been named the 2010 Kroger Mid-Atlantic Pharmacist of the Year as well as the district pharmacist of the year three times.”
A Parkersburg native, Kayla Ware is the staff pharmacist. Both her undergraduate and pharmacy degrees are from WVU. She has worked in Kroger pharmacies in Marietta, Belpre, Parkersburg and Ripley.
Kari Smith and Lena Vincent are the two pharmacy technicians. Smith has worked for Kroger 8 years and is a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician. She lives in Little Hocking. Vincent has 11 years’ experience with Kroger and is also a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician. She lives in Whipple.
“Kroger pharmacy customers can take their prescriptions to any of our pharmacies, including the new one in Marietta Memorial, and experience the same high quality services,” said King. “The new pharmacy will save many customers time and enable them to have their prescriptions filled faster.”
The pharmacy is the first inside a hospital in Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division. Customers with the Kroger Plus Card earn fuel points with their purchases.
Kroger has pharmacies in four stores in the Parkersburg market, 40 Acme Street in Marietta, 10008 Washington Blvd. in Belpre, 930 Division Street in Parkersburg and 2007 E. 7th Street in Parkersburg. Those pharmacies are open every day with longer hours than the Hospital pharmacy.
