“Five Greenmont Elementary Students Spread Kindness to Cancer Patients”
(June 5, 2017, Marietta, Ohio) –
When you’re in elementary school, most likely you weren’t thinking about volunteering your spare time to community service. You were probably more worried about how soon recess was or how many days were left in the school year so that you’d have a break from homework. Well, it seems that not every kid feels the same. This rings true for a group of five ambitious young girls from Greenmont Elementary School in Vienna, West Virginia.
This group of five girls, ranging from third through fifth grade makes up the very first student council at Greenmont Elementary. Throughout this past school year, they have participated in several community service projects including: giving blankets to homeless shelters, hosting food drives for families during Thanksgiving, raising money for the Salvation Army by being door greeters and ringing the bells and even school projects like, tidying the landscaping and playground, creating clubs to join so that students can express themselves and writing encouragements on sticky notes throughout the school.
