Visiting Hours
General Hospital Area: Visiting hours are until 8 p.m.

• Visitors are an important part of patient recovery and we welcome them during visiting hours.
• Visitors should check with nursing staff before bringing gifts of food or beverage.
• Children under 12 must have adult supervision.
• Visitors should be limited to two per patient.
• Visitors are not permitted to smoke in the hospital.
• After hour visitation (starting at 8 p.m.) : All visitors will need to obtain a pass from their respective nursing station or see patient registration in the emergency department or security.

Senior Psychiatric Services: 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 6 - 7 p.m daily.
Other times must be arranged through the treatment team. Please limit your number of visitors to two at a time. For visitors ages 18 and under, a physician order is necessary for visitation.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU):

The Intensive Care Unit daily visiting hours and rules are established for the comfort and safety of your loved one or friend, as well as for other patients.  We welcome visitors and realize that you are integral to our patients’ recovery.  Your adherence to our visiting policies will assist us in doing the best job we can to help your loved one recover quickly.

  1. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted.
  2. When the doors are closed, please pick up the phone outside of the ICU entrance to speak to a staff member who can help you. 
  3. All visitors after 8:00pm must have a visitor’s pass; this can be obtained from the nurse or unit secretary.
  4. The visiting regulations are at the nurse’s discretion and may be subject to change based on the condition of the patients in the ICU and their needs.

Hours of Visitation:

9:00am to 7:00pm – 2 visitors per patient

9:00pm to 7:00am 1 visitor per patient

Labor & Delivery: Significant others have unrestricted hours. Please call the labor and delivery department for an explanation of the visiting policy. To protect the privacy of our patients, visitors are asked to await the new arrival in the waiting area rather than in the hallway near the delivery room. Please remember that our mothers and infants need their rest, so please try not to stay for an extended period of time.

Our recovering mothers and infants are susceptible to illness, so please do not visit if you are sick or recovering from an illness. Visitors under the age of ten must be siblings of the newborn, and must stop at the nurses station for an illness screening before entering the patient’s room.

Post-Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Special Care Unit (SCU): Noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation is restricted to two visitors at a time. Children 12 and under are not permitted.

Rehabilitation Center:
General Visitation, Monday through Friday - 4 to 8 p.m.
Family/Caregiver Participation Observation Time, Wednesday, 1 to 4 p.m.
Weekends / Holidays, 1 to 8 p.m.

Patients and visitors may park in the parking garage or in any outside parking lots with the following exceptions:

• Behind the hospital, which is reserved for physicians.
• Spaces on Level B in the garage that are marked for Strecker Cancer patients only.
• Spaces on Level A, which are reserved for physicians.
• In the Emergency Department parking lot which is designated for emergency patients and for those who transport them.

Patients and Visitors are encouraged to use the Matthew St. entrance to the parking garage.

Handicapped parking spaces are located in the Emergency Department parking lot, and on Levels A, C and G in the parking garage.

Vehicles taller than 6’6” inches are not permitted in the parking garage and must use an outside lot.

Information Desk & Waiting Areas
Information Desk: If you have questions concerning patient location and general hospital information call (740) 374-1498 or ask at the information desk, located in the main lobby on the first floor. All other questions should be directed to (740) 374-1400.

Surgery Waiting Area / Ambulatory Surgery Waiting Area: Volunteers help staff the surgery information desk in the first floor waiting area of the South Pavilion, Monday through Friday until noon. Families of patients in surgery may wait there to receive progress reports.

Family and friends may call you in the waiting area by dialing (740) 374-1677. A separate waiting area for the Ambulatory Surgery department is located on the fourth floor of Allan Hall.

Family and friends may wait in these designated areas while their loved one is in surgery. They will be notified when the operation is over, when the patient is in the recovery room and when they have been returned to their room.

Other Waiting Areas: Waiting areas are available to family and friends on each floor.

According to our policy, visitation restrictions are as follows:

  • Visiting is restricted to two visitors at a time.
  • 3 South, 4 North, 4 South and 4 West ICU visitation is 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm to 7:00 am. Visiting is restricted to two visitors at a time except between the hours of 9:00 pm to 7:00 am when visiting is restricted to one visitor. Visiting permission is subject to change based on nurse’s discretion.
  • Children under the age of 12 are not permitted in the critical care areas.
  • The nurse will explain and answer questions about visiting regulations.
  • The physician or nurse reserves authority to restrict as well as expand visiting if the patient's condition warrants it or at the patient's request or depending on activity within the unit.
  • Limitation of visitation in all areas will be consistent with current CMS and HFAP guidelines.

Visitor Phones
Phones are available for visitor use at the information desk in the Emergency Department, at the information desk in Allan Hall, in the waiting areas on the second, third and fourth floors and in the surgery waiting area. You can use these phones to make local calls or to make a long distance call using a calling card. Refer to the General Information section on page 18 for information on cell phone usage.

Cell Phones
Cell phone use is permitted in the hospital with the exception of areas where patient monitoring equipment is in use or in areas identified by signage. You may use your cell phone in waiting areas and on the walkways over Matthew Street. Monitored use is for the safety of our patients, due to the possibility of interference with patient equipment. Please limit the use of cell phones in patient rooms.

The Cafe`
The Café is open to the public and is located on level G of the hospital. The Café serves a wide variety of popular foods at affordable prices and most credit and debit cards are accepted.

The Café is open from 6:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. and from 1:30 a.m. - 3:30 a.m. every day.

Vending Machines
Vending machines are located near the parking garage elevators on the second floor, in the Emergency Department waiting area, in the third floor waiting area and on level B in the Strecker Cancer Center.

ATM Machine
An ATM machine is located on the first floor walkway across from the Cashier’s office.

Smoking Policy
In consideration for the health of our patients, visitors and staff, Memorial Health System is a smoke-free facility. For the convenience of our visitors, we’ve designated these smoking areas outside the hospital:

• Matthew Street entrance. Located on Matthew Street. Take the visitor’s
elevator in the main hospital to the ground floor and exit directly on Matthew Street.
• Outside the Emergency Department on Level B. A designated smoking area is available to you with a bench and ashtray on your right as you exit the EmergencyDepartment. Smoking near the entrance is not permitted.

Smoking is not permitted in the building or by the entrances to buildings by patients or visitors. Thank you for your cooperation.
