Description
Alopecia areata is a type of patchy hair loss that occurs suddenly and usually starts with 1 or more round bald patches that may overlap. It occurs when the immune system attacks hair follicles. It may be brought on by serious stress.
Overview
Symptoms of alopecia areata are round bald patches on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. The skin may be itchy or painful before the hair loss begins.
Symptoms
Treatment may address any underlying conditions and includes topical scalp medicines.
