A hamartoma may be harmless. However, it can cause pressure, a blockage, or an infection.

Hamartomas can sometimes cause symptoms. Symptoms depend on the location and size of the hamartoma. Many hamartomas do not cause noticeable symptoms. When they do cause them, it’s usually because the hamartomas are pressing on nearby tissues or organs.
