Description

Harlequin ichthyosis is a condition in which a newborn has hard, thick skin in diamond patterns.

The condition prevents skin from protecting the body.


Overview

Babies with this condition are prone to infections and too much fluid loss, a condition called dehydration.


Symptoms

Hospital care is needed. Medicines and IV fluids can help. Tube feeding may be needed.
