Hypervolemia

June, 21st, 2024

, ,

A condition in which too much fluid builds up in the body.

Description

Hypervolemia is caused by an increase in the body’s total sodium and fluid volume. Risk factors include heart failure, kidney failure, liver scarring and some kidney disorders.

Overview

Hypervolemia symptoms can include swelling of the feet, ankles, wrist or face. Cramps, headaches, bloating of the stomach and shortness of breath also can occur.

Symptoms

With hypervolemia, the underlying cause of the condition is treated. Medicines that rid the body of sodium and water, called diuretics, may be given. A procedure to remove extra fluid is sometimes needed.
