Lead poisoning

October, 23rd, 2024

, ,

A buildup of lead in the body, often over months or years.

Description

Lead-based paint and its dust, usually found in older buildings, are common sources of lead. Young children are most at risk. Lead on job sites, such as in auto repair shops, is a more common cause for adults.

Overview

Symptoms for children include late development, learning problems, belly pain and crankiness. Adults might have high blood pressure, belly pain, and joint and muscle pain. High lead levels can be fatal.

Symptoms

Removing the source of the lead might be enough to reduce blood lead levels. Higher blood lead levels might need medicines.
