A chronic condition that causes patchy, discolored, thin skin. It often affects the genital and anal areas.


Description

Anyone can get lichen sclerosus but postmenopausal women are at higher risk. It isn’t contagious and can’t be spread through sexual contact. Lichen sclerosus is likely caused by a combination of things, including genetics, immune disorders, and previous skin injury.


Overview

Lichen sclerosus can cause soreness, itching, easy bruising, and skin tears.

Treatment is often medicated ointments or creams, which may ease itching and other symptoms.
