A group of health concerns that show that the kidneys aren’t working as they should.


Description

Nephrotic syndrome involves having too much protein in the urine, not enough protein called albumin in the blood, too much fat or cholesterol in the blood, and swelling in parts of the body.


Overview

Symptoms of nephrotic syndrome can include swelling in the legs, feet or ankles, and sometimes in the face, hands and lower stomach area. A person also may have foamy urine, weight gain, extreme tiredness and loss of appetite.


Symptoms

Treatment for nephrotic syndrome involves treating any medical condition that might be the cause of the syndrome. Medicines and diet changes also might help control symptoms and prevent complications.
