Paralysis that affects all or part of the trunk, legs, and pelvic organs but not the arms.


Description

Paraplegia can occur after a spinal cord injury that results from damage to the tissue and bones, ligaments, or spinal disks. This can happen due to a tumor, fall, sports injury or an auto accident.


Overview

Paraplegia is the loss of movement and function in the lower half of the body, including both legs. Symptoms may be temporary or permanent.

Rehabilitation, medicines and adaptive devices allow many people with spinal cord injuries to lead productive, independent lives.
