September, 9th, 2023

, ,

An inflammation of a thick band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes.

Description

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of a thick band of tissue called the plantar fascia. This tissue runs across the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone and toes. This is one of the most common causes of heel pain.

Overview

The most common symptom is a stabbing pain in the bottom of the foot near the heel. Pain is usually the worst in the morning.

Symptoms

Treatments include icing, stretching and modifying activities that cause pain. Physical therapy, shoe inserts and pain relief medicines also can help. In more-serious cases, steroid injections or surgery may be needed.
