Description

Bedsores, also known as pressure ulcers, are injuries to skin and tissue resulting from pressure on the skin for a long time. They often develop on the heels, ankles, hips and tailbone. People most at risk are those with a limited ability to change positions.


Overview

Symptoms of bedsores include a change in skin color and texture, swelling, pus-like draining, an area that feels cooler or warmer to the touch than other areas, and sore areas.

Treating pressure ulcers involves lowering pressure on the affected skin, caring for wounds, controlling pain, preventing infection and eating well.
