An infection of the skin caused by bacteria or by a fungus, virus, or parasite.
Description
Viruses cause warts. Fungi cause athlete’s foot and ringworm. Parasites cause scabies. Bacteria cause cellulitis, impetigo, and many other skin sores.
Overview
Symptoms may include itchiness, inflamed skin, and pain. Some infections cause blisters that drain pus or fluid.
Symptoms
Some skin infections can be life-threatening. Treatments include medicated creams and antibiotics, depending on the cause.
