Description
Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is bleeding in the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach — also known as the esophagus — the stomach or the first part of the small intestine. Causes may include ulcers, inflammation and cancer.
Overview
Tarry stools, bloody vomit and vomit that looks like coffee grounds are symptoms.
Symptoms
Treatments vary, depending on the cause and location of the bleeding. Sometimes, upper gastrointestinal bleeding stops on its own.
