Soreness and achiness in the muscles that can range from mild to severe.


Description

Self-care options include rest, ice, compression and elevation. Pain relief medicines available without a prescription, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others), can help, too.

See a health care professional immediately if:

  • Trouble breathing or dizziness.
  • Extreme muscle weakness.
  • High fever and stiff neck.

When to seek immediate medical care

Make an appointment to see a health care professional if:

  • Accompanied by a tick bite or rash.
  • Worsens with exercise and resolves with rest, especially in the calves.
  • Redness and swelling.
  • Follows a change in medicine or dosage.
