A deep breath of air through the mouth that is done without choice and often is triggered by sleepiness.


Description

When yawning is due to a lack of sleep, try to get more rest. Go to bed and wake up at the same times each day. Keep the bedroom quiet, dark and free of devices with screens.

Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if yawning:

  • Becomes excessive, such as more than three yawns every 15 minutes.
  • Happens along with daytime sleepiness, especially while driving, reading, talking with friends or watching TV.
  • Happens often along with other symptoms that are new or cause worry.
