Community support for Memorial Health System continues as Peoples Bank challenge is met

The generous $100,000 matching donation from Peoples Bank and Peoples Bank President and CEO Chuck Sulerzyski has been matched, bringing a cumulative $200,000 to Memorial Health System to help support our workforce and community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation, which was announced in December as part of our ongoing effort to fight and treat COVID-19 in our community, doubled the impact of other community donations, and we are proud and honored that the rest of our community has stepped up during this time.

“We are so lucky to have a great community hospital to help us in this battle, but right now, they are stressed beyond belief,” Sulerzyski said. “We all need to step up and help. I’m proud to do that on behalf of the men and women at Peoples Bank.”

Our needs have continued to evolve due to the pandemic, creating stress on our workforce and requiring heightened use of medical devices and personal protection equipment. Due to the arrival of vaccines for our community, we remain optimistic that we will soon see the other side of the pandemic, but the need for funding and support has never been more important.

The Memorial Health Foundation’s role is to support Memorial Health System in raising funds for our local hospitals and care facilities as a nonprofit organization. The gifts from the community go towards opportunities to locally provide the latest advances in technology and equipment that is not covered by insurance or government programs.

The Memorial Health Foundation accepts charitable contributions, where 100% of the proceeds assist us in enhancing the wellness of our region through programs and services offered by our not-for-profit health system. Each year, Memorial Health System provides about $60 million in free health care.

“We are humbled by the support we’ve received from our community thus far,” said Scott Cantley, President and CEO of Memorial Health System. “The rollout and distribution of this vaccine could be the most important event in the history of vaccinations since polio. We continue to rely on those around us to make it through this pandemic.”

“In three short weeks, our community has come together to raise more than $530,000 to help our local health care system continue the fight against COVID-19 and prepare for a vaccination clinic that will be significant in moving the Mid-Ohio Valley through this virus,” said Jarrett Stull, Executive Director of Memorial Health Foundation. “Benefactors are coming forward to ensure the health and safety of you, our loved ones, co-workers, neighbors, and friends. It is truly heartwarming to see this kind of compassion. We have more to do to reach our goal by the end of January, but I am confident with the help of this community, we will be successful. Every day, our administration, Memorial Health Foundation Board of Trustees, community leaders, and ambassadors are meeting with people in our networks, friends, and business colleagues to share details about the need to support our efforts and the impact their philanthropy can make at this critical time in our community.”
