Memorial Health System Announces Update to Sistersville General Hospital Build
As part of their commitment to providing full transparency throughout the building process, Memorial Health System (MHS) would like to announce a timeline adjustment in the construction of their new Sistersville General Hospital. Though the architectural work for the hospital is already underway, the groundbreaking for the facility is now projected to occur by the 2nd quarter of 2025, with a community opening planned for December 2026.
With the rising cost of construction since the conception of this project, the budget has increased from $30 million to $35 million. The initial financing plan included low-interest financing through the new market tax credit program; however, in January 2024, the updated census data for Tyler County revealed an increase in household income. As a result of this development, the county no longer qualifies for the new market tax credit program and new financing options must be explored
The additional time due to the adjustment will allow MHS to bridge this funding gap and secure additional philanthropic gifts and financing to ensure the project’s success and sustainability. Currently, more than $10 million in commitments from the state of West Virginia, local government entities, and private donors have been received on behalf of the Sistersville General Hospital project.
Despite these changes, Memorial Health System remains unwavering in its commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services to the Tyler and Pleasants County communities. The new hospital will significantly enhance healthcare access and services for residents, ultimately making a positive lasting impact on the community’s health and well-being. Throughout the construction period, MHS vows to remain dedicated to maintaining and improving the current quality of care being offered at their current Sistersville General Hospital.
