Memorial Health System Earns ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group

Memorial Health System (MHS) has earned an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization focused on patient safety. This grade for fall 2024 is a prestigious recognition of MHS’s commitment to patient safety and quality care.

Leapfrog assigns grades of ‘A,’ B,’ C,’ D,’ or ‘F’ to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, infections, and the systems that hospitals have in place to prevent them.

President and CEO of Memorial Health System, Scott Cantley states: “We are very proud of this achievement and our teams and clinicians who continue to push the boundaries of excellence and innovation in patient care, helping ensure we deliver top quality and safe care to our region.”

Director of Quality, Cindy Carpenter, RN, MSM, CPHQ, FACHE, adds: “The achievement of being recognized with a grade ‘A’ by Leapfrog is an exciting time for the health system. It helps validate to our patients and the communities we serve that we are making patient care safer and ensuring the best quality of care. Our employees, physicians, and other providers are responsible for this achievement. As Director of Quality, I am proud of the recognition that has been earned by them.”

Furthermore, Vice President of Physician Services and Chief Medical Officer, Dan Breece, DO, FACEP comments: “Achieving an ‘A’ grade takes consistent and intentional work. Congratulations to the leaders, clinicians, and staff for focusing on performance that ensures patient safety every day.”

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Memorial Health System,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Memorial Health System its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
