Hospital Medicine
Marietta Memorial Hospital and Selby General Hospital have hospitalists on-site for our patients’ inpatient care. Hospitalists are providers who manage care while a patient is staying at the hospital; they coordinate with specialists, monitor patients’ progress, and stay in close communication with each patient, their family, and their primary care provider. All of our hospitalists are experienced doctors and advanced practice providers, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants, who are board-certified in their specialties.

Why Choose Us
Compassionate Patient-Centered Care
We focus on providing patient/family-centered care. Our hospital care team is committed to providing the latest effective treatment options for each patient we see. We involve patients and families at each step of the care process, and always keep them informed of what’s happening with their health care plan. Our hospital medicine team’s goals include:
- Decreasing length of hospital stay and readmissions
- Educating our patients and families
- Improving team communication
- Increasing patient safety and quality of care
Serving as the Point Person for Whole-Person Care
Our hospitalists are uniquely qualified to care for our patients—they are the connection between surgeons, pharmacists, nurses, care managers, social workers, and the rest of our team. Because they are always at our hospitals, they understand our system resources and help ensure that every patient is closely monitored and receives around-the-clock care.
Hospitalists can be at a patient’s bedside quickly if problems arise; they are readily available to respond to the urgent needs of patients and to communicate with the patient’s family. Hospitalists also help reduce medical errors because they keep everyone involved and up to date in discussions about the patient.
Coordinated Care with Specialty Providers
When needed, our hospitalist team can coordinate care with other specialty providers across the Memorial Health System network. We work to streamline each patient’s care so they can focus on getting well, instead of spending lots of time coordinating medical appointments and specialists.
Patient Resources
Hospitalists and Your Primary Care Provider
When you are admitted to Marietta Memorial or Selby General Hospitals, you’ll be asked to confirm the name and contact information of your primary care provider. This is one of the first things we do because while a patient is in the hospital, our hospitalists act on behalf of their primary care provider. The hospitalist and primary care provider will consult if needed during your entire hospital stay.
If you do not have a primary care provider, you can call our Physician Referral Line at (740) 568-5241 and our team will help you find a provider for follow-up care.
