Rezūm™ Water Vapor Therapy

An alternative to surgery, Rezūm™ Water Vapor Therapy is a short, in-office procedure that treats benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) at its source—the enlarged prostate. With no incisions and no general anesthesia, most patients who undergo this treatment resume their regular activities within a few days and enjoy preserved sexual function.

What is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP)

A common condition that affects 50% of men by the age of 60, BHP is an enlargement of the prostate (a gland within the male reproductive system located below the bladder). Due to its location, an enlarged prostate can cause a gradual squeezing of the urethra, which in return can cause various uncomfortable lower urinary tract symptoms such as trouble starting urination, frequent urination, a weak urinary stream, and difficulty telling if the bladder is completely empty.

How does Rezūm™ work

Using sterile water vapor, or steam, a urologist can shrink the enlarged prostate by releasing the vapor throughout the targeted prostate tissue in nine-second intervals. Eventually, the body’s natural healing response will absorb the treated tissue, ultimately shrinking the prostate and opening the urethra to reduce BHP symptoms.

Patients can experience relief in as little as two weeks, with maximum benefits typically occurring within three months after the therapy.
