Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment in which the body is exposed to 100% oxygen while under increased atmospheric pressure. HBOT must be used in addition to standard wound care and is usually recommended when there are no measurable signs of healing after 30 days of standard wound care.
During treatment, patients can relax, read, nap, listen to music, or watch a movie. The only physical sensation that may be felt is slight pressure in the eardrums.
A referral from a physician is required for HBOT.
HBOT is used to treat a variety of conditions:
- Actinomycosis
- Chronic refractory osteomyelitis
- Crush injuries and severed limbs
- Diabetic wounds of the lower extremities in people who:
- Have a wound classified as Wagner grade III or higher, which could be classified as gangrene
- Have received an unsuccessful course of standard wound therapy
- Have type I or type II diabetes and a lower extremity wound that is due to diabetes
- Injury to the soft tissue caused by radiation
- Osteoradionecrosis
- Peripheral arterial insufficiency

Why Choose Us
Award-Winning Wound Care
We are proud to be recognized as a Center of Distinction by Healogics®, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Both of our Wound Centers received this distinction in 2021. We achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for twelve consecutive months, including a patient satisfaction rating over 92%.
Comprehensive, Expert Team
No matter the wound care need, we have an expert on staff to provide effective, evidence-based treatment options. Our specialty-trained providers are highly experienced in their field, and ready to provide world-class treatment to our patients.
Coordinated Care with Specialty Providers
When needed, our team can coordinate care with other specialty providers across the Memorial Health System network, such as general surgery, vascular surgery, primary care, and podiatry. We work to streamline care so patients can focus on getting well, instead of spending lots of time coordinating medical appointments and specialists.
Compassionate Patient-Centered Care
We focus on providing patient- and family-centered care. Our surgical team takes the time to get to know each patient, their complete health situation, and their treatment goals. We involve patients at each step of the care process, and always keep them informed of what’s happening with their health care plan.
